Funding & Grant Opportunities

Below is a list of our most requested grant opportunities. This list is not all-inclusive and we frequently send out email blasts to those requesting other grant opportunities with their upcoming deadlines. Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC)

Provides funding to local governments and nonprofit organizations for community facilities, industrial development, highways, asset-based higher education initiatives, and infrastructure. The local match is based on county ARC status.

Community Facilities Grant

The Community Facilities grant is a program made available through USDA Rural Development.  It allows applicants to make requests for funding for a variety of activities that benefit their community.  The match portion is dependent on census tracts and the eligible amounts are at the discretion of Rural Development.

Community Development Block Grants (CDBG)

Provides funding to local governments for water and wastewater projects, housing rehabilitation projects and community livability (including fire protection and emergency service projects).

FEMA Fire Grants

Provides firefighting equipment and training to local career and volunteer fire companies.

Local Parks and Recreation Fund (LPRF)

Local Parks and Recreation Fund grants are one of several sources recreation enhancement funding provided by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. TDEC accepts applications every other year.

Recreation Trails Program (RTP)

Recreation Trails Program awards grants to local, state, and federal governments to develop trails and trail facilities. The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation accepts applications usually every year.

Bulletproof Vest Grant

The Bulletproof Vest Partnership program allows for communities to apply for bullet proof vest every year.  The grant is a 50/50 and requires the agency to purchase the vests and then submit for reimbursement for 50% of the cost.

Solid Waste Grants

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and Division of Solid Waste Management provides grants to local governments for waste reduction.

Transportation Alternative Grants

Provides funding for transportation enhancement projects to local governments through the Tennessee Department of Transportation. This grant program funds 80% of construction costs for sidewalks, greenways, downtown revitalization, and historic transportation structure hub.
